About the VAT Calculator

The VAT (Value Added Tax) Calculator is a comprehensive tool designed to help businesses, freelancers, and individuals quickly calculate VAT amounts for any transaction. Whether you need to add VAT to a price or determine the VAT-exclusive amount from a VAT-inclusive price, this calculator handles both scenarios with ease.

What is VAT?

Value Added Tax (VAT) is a consumption tax that is applied to goods and services at each stage of production and distribution. It's used in many countries worldwide as a significant source of government revenue. VAT rates vary by country and sometimes by the type of goods or services being sold.

How to Use This Calculator:

  1. Choose Calculation Mode:
    • Add VAT: Use when you have a price excluding VAT and want to add VAT to it
    • Remove VAT: Use when you have a price including VAT and want to find the VAT-exclusive amount
  2. Select Country Preset (Optional): Click on any country to automatically set the standard VAT rate for that country
  3. Enter Amount: Input the monetary amount you want to calculate VAT for
  4. Set VAT Rate: Enter the applicable VAT percentage (this is automatically filled if you selected a country preset)
  5. Calculate: Click the "Calculate VAT" button to get your results

Calculation Methods:

Adding VAT:

Formula: VAT Amount = Net Amount × (VAT Rate ÷ 100)

Total: Net Amount + VAT Amount

Example: $100 + 20% VAT = $100 + $20 = $120

Removing VAT:

Formula: Net Amount = Gross Amount ÷ (1 + VAT Rate ÷ 100)

VAT Amount: Gross Amount - Net Amount

Example: $120 including 20% VAT = $120 ÷ 1.2 = $100 net, $20 VAT
